The recent attack that Israel launched against the leadership of Iran is a new chapter in an old book. Iran has been behind the terror launched from Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria in the past few years. To think that this regime is close to having nuclear power is to imagine an existential threat to the State of Israel, the Jewish people, and world peace. Why did Israel not attack sooner? Iran is a very large country and appeared over the years to be very adept at defending itself and attacking Israel. Not to mention the hateful rhetoric from its leaders. The surprise attack last week, in addition to earlier successes in recent months, has offered a very different picture of Iran’s strength. Nevertheless, there is an Iranian nuclear facility, Fordow, in a mountain, and the challenge of destroying this site—especially without U.S. help—is daunting.
One of the hardest parts of this time is knowing our Israeli family and friends face danger from Iranian missiles. Fortunately, there are many ways to protect its citizens, but no system is fool proof. What is good to see is that most Israelis understand this danger may be worth the risk if Iran’s threat is destroyed. Israel has had many reasons to be divided as a society. This battle is not one of them.
I hope that our country will see that supporting Israel is not only good for Israel but also for the U.S. and all those who fight terror. I hope that, at the very least, the defensive support offered by the U.S. will continue. (And if we want to attack Fordow with bunker buster bombs, I am okay with that as well.) Israel is helping the free world in its work. Any support is greatly appreciated.
At CBSW, we will continue to hope and pray for a secure Israel, an end to the wars, the return of the hostages, and the strengthening of Israel’s historic democracy. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, Israel, and the world!
