Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program

A Bar (son) or Bat (daughter) Mitzvah is a person who is taking their place in the community of Jewish adults. At CBSW, we are proud of our Bar/Bat Mitzvah program and the involvement of our member families as their students prepare for -- and celebrate -- their special event!

Our Bar/Bat Mitzvah program is comprised of preparatory coursework integrated into the Religious School curriculum and includes attendance at Shabbat services, private tutorials, and a series of sessions with the Rabbi. Study focuses on the process of Torah, the meaning of B'nai Mitzvah, an analysis of the student's Torah and Haftarah portions, and mastering the Shabbat liturgy. B'nai Mitzvah at CBSW are both family and congregational celebrations as the Bar/Bat Mitzvah participates in both Friday evening and the Shabbat morning services.

Students who become Bar/Bat Mitzvah and lead our congregation and community in worship learn life-long skills while doing so. Our services are individualized and students are coached to success through regular interaction with Rabbi Goldberg, Helen Richard, our Hebrew School educators, and their tutor. It is a great accomplishment to become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah and we're with our students and their families during every step of the process.
