Celebrating the b'nai mitzvah of adult learners

This Shabbat, our community has the special honor of celebrating a milestone that is both deeply personal and profoundly communal: the b’nai mitzvah of our adult learners. These remarkable individuals have embraced the challenge of studying Torah, Hebrew, prayer, and Jewish values with dedication, courage, and curiosity. Their journey reminds us that Jewish learning and spiritual growth are not limited by age — they are lifelong pursuits.

Each student brings their own story to the bimah: In their decision to become b’nai mitzvah as adults, they are modeling for us what it means to live a life of intention, humility, and learning.

In our tradition, becoming b’nai mitzvah marks the moment when a person takes responsibility for their own Jewish choices. It is not only a celebration of knowledge but of commitment to community, to mitzvot, and to the ongoing unfolding of a Jewish life. For our adult students, this moment reflects months—and often years—of preparation. They have studied Torah and wrestled with its meanings. They have learned to chant blessings and sacred texts. And most importantly, they have taught us all about the power of perseverance and the beauty of lifelong learning.

Please join me in honoring these incredible individuals. Their stories inspire us, and their presence strengthens the fabric of our congregation. Their service is this Saturday at 10 am.

Mazel tov to each of our adult b’nai mitzvah students. We are so proud of you.
