In the late 1970s, several Jewish families living in The Woodlands had the desire for opportunities for Jewish fellowship and education in their community. Towards this end, our founding members chartered the creation of Congregation Beth Shalom. Initially, the congregation met in members' homes. As membership grew, services were held in local churches and rented space throughout The Woodlands.

In June 1982, Congregation Beth Shalom established itself as a Reform congregation becoming affiliated with the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. Since this time, the congregation has been the center of Jewish life in Montgomery County. It has consistently provided a rich religious, educational, cultural, and social experience for the growing number of Jews who have chosen to settle in this area.

In 1998, a momentous year for CBSW, members consecrated their first permanent house of worship and engaged Rabbi James Brandt to spiritually guide the congregation into the new millennium. In 2002, the year-long "Torateinu" program, celebrated in honor of our congregation's twentieth anniversary, included the restoration and rededication of two of our Torah scrolls.

In 2004 we engaged Rabbi Jan Brahms as our spiritual leader.

In 2005 we completed the construction
of our social hall.

At Congregation Beth Shalom, we join together to grow as Jews and add meaning to our lives. We welcome you to our community.

We are a small congregation consisting of over 160 families.
